‘Jen's group art experiences are a safe space where you can explore expressing your emotions through art. Jen is amazing at holding space for others and making everyone feel safe and welcome. I love that there is no pressure to make art that looks or feels a certain way, and there is no judgement. No matter how I'm feeling before a session with Jen, I always leave feeling more relaxed and content.’

‘Jen is professional, friendly, and puts me at ease. A talented artist and a great teacher, she has empowered me to process emotions and circumstances through a wide range of experiences including movement, music, painting, drawing, collaging, and sculpting. The breakthroughs come when I have been deeply peaceful and connected to my art, letting go of my need to analyse everything. It’s the highlight of my week. We always have lots of fun and laughs together. Thank you, Jen.’

‘Firstly, thank you for allowing me the opportunity to participate in the Social Fabric Project. I feel very fortunate to have been in the first group that you expertly led. I was so in awe of the holistic experience and felt very nurtured the whole way through the project. The meditation session really set the tone to one of relaxation and deep introspection, which paved the way for the creative background to flow out of me without too much trepidation. The creative writing process seemed like a natural progression, and I loved the creative movement because I felt so ‘free’ at this point in the afternoon to just experiment with the phrases and ‘become’ each of them. At the final stage of the project where we had to paint our object that represented our phrase - it just happened as in; I knew what I had to paint. Thanks Jen.’

‘My partner and I had such a fulfilling morning at the workshop. Jen, you were amazing, so attentive and knowledgeable. You made sure everyone felt safe while also encouraging us to push our boundaries in a way that felt natural. I really appreciated how you communicated expectations clearly while keeping in mind everyone’s limits, and also offered a variety of mediums which truly pushed us to explore new creative territories. The structure of the workshop was so well thought out and kept us engaged, making us eager for each next step. By the end, we left feeling inspired and ready to embrace the weekend with fresh energy. Such a fantastic experience, thank you for making it happen!’

As many of us are immigrants, refugees, the grandchildren of colonisers, and/or descendants of those violently brought to this land, it is our collective responsibility to pay respect and recognise that the lands we occupy are the traditional territories of Indigenous nations. We are here because this land has been stolen and occupied forcefully, and has never been ceded.

Therefore, I respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land, waters, and communities in this dimension and beyond in which I work, live, and dream - the Byellee, Gooreng Gooreng, Gurang, and Taribelang Bunda people. I pay my respects to the Elders past, present, and emerging of Indigenous nations in Australia and abroad.

This always was and always will be Aboriginal land.

I recognise that the opportunity I’ve had to travel and live in different countries is a luxury; a wealth given to me by the system in which I was born. As I move through the process of unlearning and relinquishing that privilege, I endeavour to find ways to enact positive change in the global and local communities.

It is our collective responsibility to critically interrogate and reconcile with these colonial histories, both thoroughly and intersectionally. We must deconstruct the present-day implications of this colonisation to honour, respect, protect, and sustain this still-invaded land and its people.
