Alba
Inspired by memories of my Scottish homeland, known in Scots Gaelic as Alba, this painting emerged from a nostalgic longing for the landscapes that shaped my early years.
Layers of cloud drift across mountain valleys while shafts of light illuminate the land below, evoking fleeting moments of beauty found between rain, mist, and shadow. The cool palette reflects the wild northern climate I grew up with - a landscape both harsh and breath-taking in equal measure.
Created while living on the other side of the world, the work explores the ways in which memory and emotion reshape the places we leave behind - specific locations melting into a subconscious haze of belonging, melancholy, and awe.
Alba is a reflection on distance, the notion of home, and the enduring pull of the landscapes that continue to live within us long after we've gone.
