Symphony
This painting explores the relationship between creativity, embodiment, and flow.
Rather than beginning with a vision, this work emerged through a process of listening - to the sounds and rhythms of world music, and to the sensations, emotions, and the subtle impulses that arise when we allow intuition to guide us.
Drum beats built up layers of paint. Harmonies emerged through multiple brushes moving at once. A hi-hat was scratched into the surface with a crotchet needle, and the bass was smudged into the canvas with my thumb.
Colour, texture, and gesture became a visual language through which the music could reveal itself, and like any musical composition, contrasting elements coexist within the work. Moments of intensity sit alongside softness. Movement meets stillness. Individual layers weave together to create something greater than the sum of their parts.
For me, Symphony speaks to the beauty of creative surrender. To those rare moments when we stop trying to force an outcome and instead become participants in something unfolding through us.
A celebration of expression, connection, and the magic that emerges when we trust our own inner rhythm.
